This year the Richmond May Ball was a night to remember. Almost 500 guests arrived on Friday May 13 to enjoy champagne in the fading sunlight on Richmond Green, at the start of a glorious fundraising ball, set in a resplendent marquee.
Guests included familiar famous faces like Samantha Bond, Sara Stewart, Peter Davison and Adrian Mills, who willingly joined in the fun, drawing the lucky raffle tickets and helping the auctioneer elicit bids for the stunning prizes in the live auction.
At least £50,000 was raised just from the activities on the night ensuring that the Ball will be able to provide substantial funds to this year's two locally-based charities: The Holly Lodge Centre and The Victoria Foundation.
This was the 23rd Richmond May Ball, and 2016 will certainly go down as one of the best ever. It was made possible by the generous sponsorship of a number of local businesses including Featherstone Leigh, Antony Roberts, Splendid, Gardenia, Handelsbanken, and Banham.
In addition, donors provided amazing prizes including holidays, jewellery, designer accessories and a raft of others, which enabled the ball to raise such a large sum of money in the silent auction. At Sheengate, we were proud to donate the artwork from a local artist, that served as the front cover to all of our special commemorative May Magazines in tribute to The Queen's 90th Birthday.
After all the excitement of prize-winning, and a sumptuous four-course dinner with wine, guests danced the night away to the sounds of the band Diva until carriages at 1am. In a feat of incredible industry, the marquee was magically transformed in to a lively craft and arts space in a just few short hours, ready for all the fun of the May Fair on Saturday.
A great weekend's activities, for a number of great causes, that Sheengate is proud to have been a part of!
