The Woking Fringe launches in October, with a set of 'alternative' entertainment options aimed at theatregoers aged 18+
Nick Wyschna has been the artistic director of the famed Guildford Fringe since he founded it in 2012. It's a fine run-up to Edinburgh, offering theatre, comedy clubs and burlesque cabarets – and he's expanding the idea to Woking this October.
The Woking Fringe launches on October 10 with the Woking Gag House Comedy Club, which will be a professional, monthly comedy night at the local H.G.Wells Conference and Events Centre. That's not the only event they've got lined up – this Christmas, the conference centre will play host to D!ck, a professional adult panto on December 14-19.
“I have been running Guildford Fringe now for 3 years", explains Nick, "and on a recent trip to Woking for a networking event it came to me that there was really a lot going on in the town."
Things moved quickly from there – and the future looks bright.
"I had a meeting with Ray Morgan from WBC who was very keen for our kind of Fringe entertainment in Woking and thats how it came about. The plan is to slowly build Woking Fringe like we did with Guildford. The long-term plan would be to have a Woking Fringe Festival in the town centre – so watch this space!"
