Guildford Shakespeare Company are hosting some great events in April to mark the 400th anniversary of the bard's death – join them around Surrey
How far would you walk for a good cause? That is the question.
For Matt Pinches, co-founder of the Guildford Shakespeare Company, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, it's 146 miles – the distance from Stratford-upon-Avon to London's Globe Theatre, to be exact. Matt will be stepping out on this fundraising challenge in August, to help raise money to finance a permanent home for the Company in Guildford. Find out how you can show your support.
In addition, the Company will be hosting a number of events to mark the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death on April 23. They really have catered for everyone, with activities to not only highlight the magic of Shakespeare's work, but also the heritage spots and countryside wonders that Surrey has to offer.
- Will's Will: A lecture about Shakespeare's will at Hatchlands Park, which houses what is believed to be the only portrait of the playwright painted during his lifetime. April 20, 7.30pm, £10
- Sonnet Walks: Popular walking tours with the troupe, which bring the bard's theatre to life on the streets of Guildford. April 23-24, 12.30pm, £15
- Staged Reading of Cymbeline: For those of us who simply like to appreciate a quality performance in a memorable setting at St Mary's Church. April 30, 7.30pm, £14
