A festival of North African theatre, dance and more comes to Sutton Theatres from Nov 21-29, after stops at the Bolshoi and New York Ballet
The inaugural Marhaba Maghreb Festival of Contemporary North African Theatre and Dance comes to Sutton Theatres this month, with a powerful programme showcasing some of the most impressive young North African artists today.
Encompassing capoeira – an Afro-Brazilian martial arts form – urban and contemporary dance and more, productions are designed to bridge the gap between Western and African cultures and to explore the social and political issues of the day.
With previous stops on the tour including the Bolshoi and the New York Ballet, the festival is also quite a coup for Sutton.
“It gathers young North African artists that are already being recognised on the international stage,” says Beri Juraic, Executive Director of Sutton Theatres. “It’s putting Sutton on the theatre map nationally and internationally.”
The festival runs from November 21-29 at the Sutton Theatres
