Charlotte Grobien OBE is holding an open day for two houses in West Clandon on Saturday, September 28 from 11 am to 2 pm. Once sold, all the proceeds will go directly to local Surrey and London-based charities.
Grobien founded Give It Away in 2005 to build and renovate houses and pass on the proceeds to good causes. Give It Away has raised £1,833,370 so far and supported 23 charities. With the sale of their current houses, Grobien is hoping to reach the £2 million donation mark.
Guildford local, Ollie Thorn, works for national disability charity Back Up – one of the charities who will receive donations from the sale. Ollie was in training for the Royal Academy of Sandhurst when he sustained a spinal cord injury in a road traffic accident in Clandon in 2012.
‘‘It’s fantastic to have the amazing support of Charlotte Grobien and Give It Away. Back Up receives no government funding, so we rely entirely on generous donations, fundraisers and supporters to make our work possible. Many of the young people we’ve supported have benefitted directly from Give It Away,’’ Ollie said.
All the charities Give It Away support make a difference to the lives of young people living with injury, disability, disadvantaged circumstances or who lack social or educational opportunities for their future.
Back Up is the only charity in the UK with dedicated services for children and young people with a spinal cord injury. They support children and young people to be fully included in their education, learn wheelchair skills and build confidence and independence on their activity courses.
Charlotte Grobien received an OBE in 2015 for charitable services to children and young people in Wandsworth, London, and Surrey.
