The Guildford Society has released tickets for its free Annual Architecture Lecture hosted and supported by The University of Surrey and sponsored by Martin Grant Homes.
This year’s Lecture will take place on Tuesday, November 6th 2018, at 7 pm in the Rik Medlik Building on the University’s Stag Hill campus. The Guildford Society will be pleased to welcome the event’s guest speaker, LDA Design’s Alister Kratt.
Commenting on the theme of his lecture, ‘Surrey Utopia – a Brave New World?’, Alister said: “We can experience a strong desire to stop the clocks - almost as strong as the pressure for development to continue to accelerate. Yet we are conditioned to evolve, all places and all peoples. The growth of settlement and change in the Surrey countryside has gone on for hundreds of years, much of it creating successful and attractive places. So why do we fear change so much?
“My lecture will explore the connection of people and place, Surrey’s landscape story, the concept of newness over nostalgia and how we can secure positive outcomes in a changing world.”
Patricia Grayburn MBE DL from the University of Surrey said: “The University is delighted to host the 12th Annual architecture Lecture here on campus. We would like to extend a very warm welcome to The Guildford Society, Alister Kratt, and to any other guests who wish to join us for this free lecture, which is one of the main events in The Guildford Society’s calendar.”
