Leightons Opticians & Hearing Care Cobham has been delivering expert vision and hearing care services for more than 40 years and has now moved to a bigger and brighter new home on Holly Parade.
NATIONAL EYE HEALTH WEEK
Taking place between 20-26th September, it raises awareness of the importance of maintaining good eye health and having regular sight tests.
Leightons understands that the pandemic has made it trickier to keep up with family eye appointments and would recommend making an appointment if you have not seen an optician for more than a year or have any concerns.
SALLY OWEN, Branch Manager at Leightons Cobham for more than 20 years, shares exclusive insight into Leightons’ exciting state-of-the-art practice and the fascinating history behind the brand which has become a firm part of the Cobham community.
How did the move arise?
“Since first opening back in 1978, we have seen the area constantly change, developing into the bustling, thriving village it is today, and we felt it was time for us to change too! The team has enjoyed building up a strong relationship with patients over the last 40 years, as well as relishing welcoming lots of new faces through the door.
With our patient base growing substantially when the opportunity arose to move to a larger space, we were ready to take the plunge. The new practice means everything to the team, and we cannot wait to share it with all our loyal customers and new ones too.”
Can you share some details about the interior?
“It was important that the practice represented everything that Leightons was built on, reflecting back on our rich history, whilst looking ahead to the future. Leightons began in 1928 when founder Henry Oscar Leighton opened his own practice after years of pursuing a career within the world of optics. When he received his first prescription, paid for by a single gold sovereign, this was kept as a memento and has become a treasured icon of our beginnings.
So, it was a natural choice to use satin gold throughout the new concept. It was also important that our environment reflects the quality of the service and products that we offer. The new space has a luxurious feel across the display elements and furniture, textures and details.”
What can patients expect in terms of equipment advancement?
“We have invested in the latest ground-breaking technology to provide customers with the most in-depth eye examinations available. Our Ultimate Eye Examination incorporates OCT and Optomap retinal imaging so we can capture a detailed view of the back of the eye, enabling us to see up to 80% of the retinal surface as well as a detailed 3D view.
Our new Myah equipment helps us thoroughly assess the front of the eye for dryness and contact lens work, and our Hoya VisuReal Mirror offers us ultimate accuracy when taking an array of measurements to assist in the dispensing of spectacles.
We now also have a state-of-the-art audiology room, allowing us to provide the most comprehensive hearing care services, including free full hearing assessments, hearing aid dispensing, ear wax removal, and many other specialist services.”
What range of frames is available?
“We stock an extensive portfolio of frames to appeal to all tastes, everything from cool classics in Italian acetate through to exquisite handmade frames and bold, vibrant statement-makers. We offer a wide range of brands including Gucci, Chloe, Maui Jim, Lindberg, and many other favourites. We are also showcasing in the practice our very own in-house collection Yesterday.Today.Tomorrow., inspired by our heritage, the trends of today, and our hopes for the future.”
What does it mean to Leightons to be part of the Cobham community?
“Leightons is proud to be an established part of the local community and extremely grateful for all the support we have received. Giving back and helping where we can is, therefore, very important to us. The lockdowns had a huge impact on community health and we were committed to addressing the issue through working alongside the Trussell Trust and delivering groceries to those in need, as well as providing a food bank drop-off point in the practice.”
The Cobham team is ready and raring to welcome you into the brand-new practice. You can book an appointment online at leightons.co.uk or call 0800 40 20 20.
