‘Freedom to Flourish’
Aldro is a coeducational day and boarding school for approximately 220 children aged between 7 and 13. Nestled in the quintessentially English and very beautiful village of Shackleford in Surrey, the school is just 30 miles southwest of London and in easy reach of both Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Many children join us daily from the towns and villages surrounding our stunning rural location, but with full, weekly, and family-friendly boarding, Aldro also welcomes children from all around the world, as well as those looking for an idyllic country education away from the capital.
Life at Aldro is lots of fun. As you walk around the grounds, you will see children playing a whole variety of sports, rowing the lake, learning the rules of Pétanque, or playing pirates on its very own adventure island. You will see them rehearsing for an upcoming play, singing in the choir, or heading off to the woods for yet another outdoor education lesson. Aldro life is guaranteed to be varied and stimulating!
Aldro has a long and successful history in preparing young people to attend leading independent senior schools, yet despite its heritage and traditions, Aldro offers a modern, progressive, and innovative curriculum that will prepare both girls and boys for their personal and professional lives beyond school. Children go on to some of the country’s most prestigious schools including Charterhouse, Tonbridge and Benenden. In 2024, 25% of the cohort achieved academic scholarships to schools including Winchester, Wycombe Abbey and RGS Guildford and over the last three years, a total of 16 academic scholarships have been awarded.
From September 2025, Aldro’s boarding provision for full boarders will see exciting new developments. The full-boarding programme will typically begin on a Saturday afternoon, the extra time allowing for the introduction of a cultural programme in addition to the existing programme of fun activities already planned on Sundays. More trips to places of cultural interest are proposed, as well as increased opportunity to meet the specific needs of individual boarders such as music practice, tutoring for the pre-test and academic support.
