Mail order furniture company Myakka opens in Guildford on February 28. Priding itself on providing fairtrade home accessories, our resident shopaholic Nikki Ackerley takes a look at the new store offering an Aladdin's cave of furniture, soft furnishings and lighting
Watch out for Myakka which opens in Guildford at 196 High street on February 28. Having successfully traded for many years through its dedicated mail order catalogue and website, this is its first shop, opening in time for Fairtrade Fortnight (Feb 23 - Mar 8).
Bringing a treasure trove of fair trade solid wood furniture, soft furnishings, lighting and home accessories, founder Georgie Hopkins explains:
"We have a very different approach to fairtrade. Our products are design-led, covetable pieces in fresh, individual styles that are perfect for modern living. The furniture is made from sustainable hardwods from properly run plantations. And now people can see and touch products before they buy, particularly the larger furniture items."
