Elmbridge Councillor Ruby Ahmed will welcome 70 members of Molesey Boat Club to her Golden Curry restaurant in East Molesey, to enjoy a fundraising dinner on April 28, with all proceeds going toward a community rowing centre
Molesey Boat Club is coming into the final stretch of funding for their community rowing centre, which will include an eight-seating rowing tank. It was topped out last November by the Mayor of Elmbridge and the Chairman of British Rowing, and will feature facilities that will help introduce local children into rowing, including disabled children.
"I am a great supporter of the club, and am keen to see the community rowing centre completed", enthused Ruby. "This will be a great sporting asset for the whole of Elmbridge."
This is just the latest of MBC's fundraising efforts, which have included buy-a-brick drives and a dinner with members of the Olympic Team GB - several of whom are members of the club itself, including Captain Moe Sbihi, who charged to victory in the Open Championship earlier this year.
Vice-Captains Sam Fowler and Ali Gregory feel "we've made "tremendous progress. The building is complete, and we're now raising funds for the rowing tank. We hope other businesses in the area will get involved in this fantastic community project"
Chairman Bill Raspin was more forthright. "It'll be a great evening", he said. "The more curry we eat, the more money we'll raise. What's not to love?"
