Pregnancy can induce a rollercoaster of emotions. Ride it in style with these fabulous body boosters, says Fiona Adams
You’re pregnant! Yee-hah! Euphoria all round. Of course, there will be a few of you out there who are sailing through your nine months aboard the Good Ship Serenity (congratulations). Many of you, however, will not be feeling quite so euphoric now that those pesky hormones have kicked in.
What with the tiredness, the constant peeing, the stretch marks, the none-too-distant prospect of actually going to give birth…
Apologies if I’m not exactly cheering you up, but a few of the following treats just might. So, put up those swollen ankles, read on and indulge yourself while you can...
Mummy massage
As your pregnancy advances, your muscles ache and increased pressure is placed upon your joints, back, hips and knees. One way of relieving this is regular massage by an experienced practitioner, who will make sure that you are in the correct positions and that your baby bump is supported at all times.
Relief Into Life (01306 640561) has practices in Dorking and Reigate and offers pre- and post-natal massage, as well as Massage for Labour workshops. Alternatively, for more osteopathic help (for problems in the lower back and pelvis), both the Chart Clinic in Reigate (01737 248023) and Ashtead Osteopathy (01372 277311) offer services for pregnant mums and are widely respected.
Goodbye feet
There will come a time when you can no longer reach (or even see) your feet. Sad, but true. I’m sure you don’t want to trust your partner to paint your summer, so enlist some expert help instead.
Skyrah Beauty Salon in Epsom (01372 748772) has an extensive pedicure menu, including the luxury zen spa option which – with the help of thermal booties – also boosts circulation. Meanwhile, Beauty Solaire in Great Bookham (01372 459156) offers long-lasting Shellac pedicures to keep you going for a few weeks.
Underpinning undies
Your silhouette may have changed somewhat, but that doesn’t mean that you have to give up on gorgeous underwear (with the right support, of course).
Without doubt the place to go is Victoria’s Little Bra Shop (01306 743338) in Dorking’s West Street. Here you will find a lovely range of Royce maternity bras, which are pretty and comfortable, while the staff also offer full fitting advice.
Fabulous skin
No better time to love your skin than when it’s stretched and hormone-embattled every day. Newly launched Natural Birthing Company’s range of products, developed by midwives, includes perineal massage oil and aromatherapy body spritz (naturalbirthingcompany.co.uk).
The Renewing Cleansing Oil by Murad is the perfect choice for cleaning and hydrating tricky faces (murad.co.uk), while Ark Nourishing Body Lotion – which comes free of parabens and formaldehyde – is ideal for helping to keep skin supple and for keeping those stretch marks at bay (arkskincare.com).
