If a major revamp is out of the question, there are other ways to transform your bathroom. Try clever tricks and stylish buys to give it a brand new look, says Emily Horton

1 GLOVES ON
Scrub, scrape and polish every surface to get them glistening.
2 DECLUTTER
Most cosmetics and toiletries should be thrown out after six to 12 months. Get rid of those mould mascaras and Christmas bath salts that you are never going to use. Reorganise your essentials by trying new storage ideas: shelves and wall cabinets will not take up valuable floor space, and baskets and pots will keep small items tidy.
3 BRING |N THE NEW
Replace tired accessories for an instant update. Invest in sleek, contemporary style taps, radiators or towel rails. Or simply try a new mirror, shower curtain or blind.
4 INJECT SOME LIFE
Have fun with colour and buy some eye popping towels. Or work some magic with paint, perhaps on a feature wall to complement your linen.
5 GO GREEN
Introduce some low-maintenance plants that relish the warm and humid climes of a bathroom, like tropical plants anthurium and caladium. Orchids also do well. If you have no natural light, try the peace lily.
6 REVAMP
Regrout old tiles for a fresh, clean look or update flooring and surfaces with glittery splash panels, mosaics or even glass. If it's hard to spend the cash, remember that a revamp will always add value to your property.
7 RELAX
Who says practical can't be relaxing? Make your bathroom an oasis of calm with scented candles, luxury dressing gown and slippers, and perhaps, if you have the space, an armchair.
