RHS Wisley Flower Show 2014
RHS Ambassador Mary Berry opened the spectacular RHS Wisley Flower Show today with - you guessed it - a cake.
The bestselling author and cook smiled for cameras as she added the final rose to a three-tiered floral cake display made by floral decorator to the Royals and celebrities Simon Lycett.
The show, which runs from 2–7 September, is set to be a colourful one with the National Dahlia Society showing gorgeous blooms from a variety of exhibitors and the NAFAS (the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies) putting on displays of newspaper-inspired floral art.
RHS Chelsea and Hampton Court Palace Flower Show medal-winning nurseries will be exhibiting their very best plants for sale, including cacti, hostas, dahlias, chrysanthemums, alpines, bonsai, herbs, conifers, lilies, tropical house plants and more.
Tradestands will have a wealth of tools, sculptures, artwork, garden furniture and more, and the RHS Gardening Advice team will be answering gardening queries. Visitors can enter the ‘My Best Garden Dahlia’ competition, by taking a single stem along to the Dahlia Marquee by noon to be judged by a panel of experts, with prizes announced at 3pm each day.
The Surrey Sculpture Society trail will also be enticing visitors out to all corners of Wisley in its late-summer splendour, with more than 60 sculptures positioned around the garden, all available to buy.
Once again, there is a plant crèche for convenience, and plenty of places to grab a coffee on the go.
Sept 2-7. The flower show is free for all RHS members, or with normal garden entry. Adults: £12.20, inc gift aid. Children 5 - 16 years: £5.25 inc gift aid. Family 2+2(2 adults + 2 children) £31.50 inc gift aid.
