Core Values: The Life and Work of Gerald Laing
Celebrating the late, legendary pop-artist and sculptor Gerald Laing (1936-2011), the exhibtion Core Values: The Life and Work of Gerald Laing explores his work at the World Rugby museum, Twickenham Stadium. The exhibition in now open and will run until the end of the RBS 6 Nations.
Laing, who first made his name in the 1960s as part of a group of American pop-artists – including Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and Jim Rosenquist – later made his mark on Twickenham Stadium.
His sculptures The Four Players and Core Values (left) – the monumental line-out piece that stands outside the stadium – are now iconic parts of the Twickenham scene.
The exhibition includes a selection of Laing’s conceptual drawings and the actual resin moulds used to cast the five large-scale players’ heads for Core Values.
The RBS 6 Nations Championships will kick off on 1 Feb, 2014 and continue into 2015. The first weekend will see England take on France in Paris while Ireland host Scotland in Dublin.
