Clap your hands and say "I believe in fairies", because goblins and pixies of every sort are at Bourne Hall on March 14 for this year's Herald of Spring festival
Last year the theme was spring flowers, which saw gardens and green thumbs on proud display. The year before that the festival was a show of medieval history, complete with magic, medicine and music from an age gone by. This year, the theme is a celebration of nature - as represented by the fairy folk that populate Britain's countryside and gardens.
Bourne Hall itself is set to be become a haven for flower fairies, with fae decorations and beautiful floral displays from Ashtead Park Garden Centre decorating the building and grounds. The St Mary's Morris Men will ring in the arrival of Spring with their traditional dancing, while the Woodland Trust invites everyone to share in the creation of a Centenary Forest at nearby Langley Vale.
Huxley's Birds of Prey will be performing flying displays across the grounds with their gorgeous birds, while Hobbledown Adventure Farm host some fun activities for kids and adults alike. Demonstrations of rustic crafts and a Spring Fair offer the perfect place to buy a gift, on the eve of Mother's Day!
Children who dress up as sprites can enjoy a fancy dress competition, and they can all take part in a treasure hunt across the fairy-infested grounds! Kid's Krafts provides them with an outlet for their fairy art - and we'll even find out who's won the Herald of Spring Children's Art Competition!
There's still time to join that competition - submit your entry to Bourne Hall before March 9 to see your art made into part of the decorations, and maybe win tickets for a day at Hobbledown!
The Herald of Spring Festival runs from 9am-5pm on March 14, with free entry.
