World War II Woking veteran
Give a thought to 92 year old Bill Moore who had the extraordinary job of flying into Nazi-occupied Europe as a RAF airman during World War II. Bill was tasked with not only dropping bombs on strategic enemy targets, but transporting special operations personnel who were undertaking spying missions in Europe.
Bill, who retired to Woking 13 years ago, reminisced to our editor, Emily Horton at the fourth anniversary of the Bomber Command Memorial in Green Park, London. There, he was joined by other RAF veterans and members of the RAF Benevolent Fund which offers a variety of support services.
Bill still keeps up with other veterans at the monthly Woking Aircrew Association meetings at Fairoaks Airfield and at the local branch of the RAF Association, for which he is secretary.
Woking Aircrew Association meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7pm at Fair Oaks airport, Chobham; for more info, visit: aircrew.org.uk/woking/
