Thieves have stolen more than £30,000 worth of tools from the boot of a car in Esher

Detectives in North Surrey are appealing for information after a large quantity of valuable tools were stolen from a vehicle in Esher.

More than £30,000 pounds worth of tools were stolen from the black Renault Laguna when it was parked outside the owner’s house. The tools stolen include a soldering iron - a Weller Pyropen, screwdrivers, wire cutters, gas torch, Fluke Multimeter, spanners, a Makita drill, tool cases, and an IBAG High Speed Spindle.

The incident occurred at approximately 2.15 am on Wednesday, 23 July when tools were stolen from a car parked in Hinchley Way.

Officers have released CCTV footage of two men who were seen in the area around the time of the offence and officers are keen to speak to the men as they believe they may be able to provide vital information to assist with this on-going investigation.

Investigating Officer, Katy Darke said: "Surrey Police is keen to hear from anyone who may have any information relating to the theft of these tools or may have been in the area around the time of the incident and heard or seen anything suspicious.

She added: "We are also keen to speak to anyone who may have details of the men in the CCTV image or may have since been approached to buy tools at a suspiciously low price or with dubious ownership history.

"Where possible, our advice is to not keep tools in vehicles and leave a notice on the vehicle advising would-be thieves that no tools are stored within. But we appreciate that this is not always possible, especially during daylights hours when the van may still be in use, and would urge owners to put security measures in place.

"Any vehicle that is used to store valuable tools should be fitted with an alarm and ideally also an internal security cage to prevent anyone forcing their way in. The tools themselves should also be property marked, making them less attractive to the thief and easier to return to the rightful owner if they are recovered.”

If members of the public see anyone acting suspiciously around a vehicle they should contact the police immediately. Similarly if anyone is offered high value tools for sale cheaply they should call Surrey Police on 101.
