Surrey cyclist directed onto the M25 by confused iPhone app. Emily Davis reports
Commuters on the M25 in Surrey were taken by surprise when a cyclist joined the traffic flow.
The cyclist, who was trying to find a shorter route home, was directed onto the motorway by a wayward iPhone app.
Surrey Roads Police tweeted: "Cyclist stopped and after a long conversation he has been safely removed with his copy of his ticket for £50."
Surprised drivers spotted the ambitious commuter pootling along between Junction 12 and 13.
“Most children know not to stray onto a motorway” tweeted Surrey Roads Police in response to one Twitter user’s suggestion that the cyclist may have made a “genuine mistake.”
“Nice chap but unaware of the rules of the road” they clarified. “Believed it ok to ride/walk on hard shoulder struggled to see why not”.
Surrey Roads Police were quick to assure local Gavin Critchley that the mystery cyclist was definitely not Bradley Wiggins, joking “No Sir Bradley would have been going faster than the cars”.
Lesson learned: think twice before blindly trusting your iPhone!
