Top Gear star Richard Hammond took some time out of his busy schedule to visit The Children’s Trust centre in Tadworth last Monday (Feb 17).
During his visit he spent time with children who were receiving treatment for brain injury along with their parents and staff, and observed a physiotherapy session.
Hammond, who is Vice President of the charity, was filming for the BBC charity appeal programme, Lifeline, which will be in aid of The Children’s Trust next month and is due to be aired March 16.
The Children’s Trust, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, helps hundreds of children and young people suffering from brain injuries caused by accidents and illness. The charity has the UK’s largest rehabilitation unit, a specialist centre in Tadworth, which opened in 2009. It hopes to raise money in order to fund the specialist services that they offer so they can support children and their families through difficult times.
Having sustained a serious brain injury himself in 2006, this is a charity close to Hammond’s heart. He recently voiced the audio children's book Heads Up, Tim-Tron, which explains about brain injury.
Tune in to BBC Lifeline on 16th March to see the star’s visit to the centre in Tadworth.
