Prolific burglar Adam Yaroo sentenced to six years in prison
A prolific burglar who went on the run around the South East before being caught by Surrey Police has been put behind bars for six years.
Adam Yaroo pleaded guilty to four charges of burglary and two of attempted burglary and was sentenced when he appeared at Guildford Crown Court today (Thursday 9 October).
The 28-year-old also asked for a further 36 offences, which occurred between January 1 2012 and September 13 2014 and took place in Surrey, Oxfordshire, London, Kent, Derbyshire and Sussex, to be taken into consideration.
Yaroo absconded from HMP Sudbury in Derbyshire on June 23 and as his pattern of offending emerged was listed as a wanted man in Surrey and neighbouring counties.
Detective Inspector Richard Haycock of Surrey Police's Proactive Crime Team led the investigation. They caught up with him on September 17 in the Clapham area of London when he was arrested as he was getting out of a van.
Yaroo was linked to crimes in Tadworth, Kingswood, Burgh Heath and Chipstead through a number of witnesses coming forward, as well as his DNA being found on a cigarette butt and a left behind screwdriver.
In one crime jewellery worth £18,000 was taken, when Yaroo burgled a property on Epsom Lane South.
"Adam Yaroo was a brazen burglar who carried out his offences in broad daylight, taking expensive jewellery and electrical items" said Investigating officer Detective Constable Anna Patterson.
"A huge amount of effort went into catching Yaroo who was wanted by numerous Forces in the South East because of his offending. I hope today's sentence gives reassurance to the public that we take burglary extremely seriously in this county and will not rest until wanted criminals are brought to justice.
"Yaroo was a career criminal who planned his burglaries. When challenged by members of the public he attempted to fool them with a story about how he was trying to track down witnesses to a motorbike accident the day before.”
