A survey to find out how much young people know about the Prevent strategy, which aims to support and safeguard them from the risks of terrorism and extreme views linked to it, has been launched in Reigate and Banstead by Surrey Police.
Questions include asking what you would do if a friend "post[ed] racist and unpleasant messages on social media, including links for violent and angry videos."
The survey is being distributed to schools and colleges throughout Reigate and Banstead to find out if young people between the ages of 14 and 19 know how to report any concerns as it has been identified that they are particularly targeted by extremist or terrorist-related organisations.
The survey has previously been distributed to schools and colleges throughout Woking.
"With current events in places such as Iraq and Syria it is important that we can reach out to young people to safeguard them from those that wish to spread messages supporting terrorism” said Surrey Police's Prevent Coordinator Lee Sawkins.
"We need to keep our friends, families and communities safe and it is important that young people are aware of how to report any concerns and access any support the strategy can offer. To do this effectively it is felt that we must get the views and opinions of young people."
