Peter Alliss presents trophies at Hindhead Golf Club
The Hindhead Golf Club Stags (over 60’s) recently held their annual Christmas meeting, where a total of 65 seniors enjoyed an 18 hole scramble over a fantastic golf course followed by an excellent lunch.
The event, which was the culmination of a great golfing year comprising 40 matches and various other meetings and competitions, also hosted the annual trophy presentation, which was conducted in tremendous style by Hindhead’s own World Golf Hall of Fame member, Peter Alliss.
Peter presented the Rob Scott Trophy for the best combined scores in the Spring and Autumn meetings to Mike Abbott whilst the same distinction for handicaps above 19, the Dick Sheppard Salver, went to Jack Bunt.
The Roger Childs Trophy for the 4 ball-better ball knockout was won by Graham Cribb and Tony Warehan, and the John Jones Putting Salver went to Nick Reeves. The Cliff Parratt Salver for the best performance of a Stag in matches through the season was won by Jack Buchanan.
On the day the scramble was won by the team of Clint Gunning, Bill Butt and Mike Sheppard with a gross score of 68.
The Hindhead Golf Club was formed in 1904 when a small group of golfing enthusiasts, including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the first Club President, began the task of converting barren moorland into a course that members and visitors alike are still enjoying today.
The event also raised £371 for the Phylis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham and £122 for the Chase Childrens Hospice in Godalming.
