A pile-up involving six vehicles has happened on the M25.
The incident occurred between junctions 9 (Leatherhead) and 8 (Reigate) at around 8.10am this morning and involved two lorries and four cars, including an HGV and a Toyota Yaris.
A man in his 30s, who was driving the Yaris, has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
He was cut free from his car by fire crews and flown to St George's Hospital in Tooting.
Other vehicles were also involved in the collision, including a second HGV, a Vauxhall Vivaro van, a Volkswagen Fox, a white Astra van, and a Volkswagen Golf.
The driver of the Vivaro van was taken to St George's Hospital by land. It is not believed that anyone else was injured as a result of the collision.
The clockwise carriageway has now been reopened but the anti-clockwise carriageway still remains closed in the vicinity while emergency crews deal with the incident. Officers are urging members of the public to remain in their vehicles for their own safety.
"#M25 #Surrey J9-J8. We've managed to open 1 lane past the earlier RTC. The inside 3 lanes remain closed with long delays from J11" tweeted the Highways Agency at 12.06pm.
