Sony has announced the latest actor to take on the role of Spider-Man, and it's Kingston's own Tom Holland who will be joining the Avengers on-screen next year
In a time when Batman, Superman and Professor X are all played by British actors (and even Thor is Australian) it's perhaps unsurprising to see another great American superhero join the British invasion - and this is the youngest yet.
Tom Holland (19) was chosen for the role from a selection of 1500 young actors, all raring to don the web-slingers and become the next Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man. The Kingston actor is perhaps best-known for playing the title role of Billy Elliot at Victoria Palace in 2010.
His final challenge was said to be a screen test with Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans themselves. They're the leading stars of Captain America: Civil War, a film that Holland will make his first appearance in next year, ahead of his own movie in 2017.
At this point, Spider-Man might as well be a local hero - Holland replaces Andrew Garfield, co-star of The Social Network, who himself grew up in Surrey.
Garfield's replacement is speculated to be part of a deal between Marvel Studios and Sony, in order to allow Spider-Man to appear in the highly-popular shared universe the former has constructed around its superhero movies and television series.
We're all looking forward to seeing Tom on screen as mild-mannered Peter Parker, but he must remember - with great power comes great responsibility!
