Surrey locals campaign to change to flight paths north of Gatwick Airport
Locals are calling on the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to reverse a decision by the Director of Airspace Policy that will enable planes to fly outside of the existing Noise Preferential Route (NPR).
Currently, the revised route allows aircraft to make wider turns, and therefore go further west and north, which they claim will cause annoyance to people who weren’t troubled before in Capel, Beare Green, Coldharbour, Holmwood, Brockham, Betchworth, Leigh, Reigate and Redhill.
They add that it will push flights out over the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and closer to Leith Hill.
“It seems that the wider turn allows the aircraft to fly faster. This may mean that Gatwick can squeeze in a few more take-offs. So the motive may be extra profit” explains the petition.
“The impact is that many people are now affected who were not before. The CAA is reviewing these changes now. We must stop them becoming permanent.”
