Good news for drivers and cyclists - Osbourne's budget to fill potholes!
The Chancellor of the Exchequer has announced that the new Budget will allow local authorities to bid for a further £200 million to help repair potholes and road surface damage.
This is in addition to the extra £183.5 million provided already this year. The total of Government funding for road maintenance and repair is therefore now close to £1 billion for the coming financial year. Surrey is eligible to bid for £5,341,676 of the new pothole fund.
The move comes as a response to public outcry over the poor condition of roads following the floods in December and January.
Anne Milton, Member of Parliament for Guildford, said she was delighted by the decision.
"In my car, riding my bike or running, I am only too aware of where repairs are needed locally!" said Milton.
"I am pleased that the second pothole repair fund the Chancellor included in his Budget yesterday will give the County Council more to spend to make our roads fit for everyone to use."
