Kingston celebrates the upcoming Olympics with a Brazilian Culture Festival, July 23 –24
Kingston Upon Thames is to play host to ‘Rio Upon Thames,’ a weekend festival celebrating the vibrant sights and sounds of Brazil. The festival is organised by Quilombo UK, a local social marketing agency that works with the Kingston community, and is supported by the Brazilian Embassy, Kingston Council, Sport Kingston and other local organisations.
Kingston marketplace will be transformed into a lively hub of entertainment featuring live music and performances from some brilliant Brazilian performers. Audiences will be able to experience Brazilian culture like vibrant Carnival displays, earth shaking Samba percussion and awe-inspiring Capoeira martial arts. The marketplace will feature stalls offering Brazilian produce and information regarding tourism.
Throughout the day the public will also have the opportunity to participate in a number of Brazilian dance and Capoeira workshops. In the evening local clubs and venues will play host to a variety of Brazilian themed nights where participants can have the opportunity to try out their new dance moves or relax and just watch the Brazilian entertainers do their thing.
With the Olympics fast approaching Kingston sets out to build the anticipation with a cultural celebration brimming with exciting and unique activities that will captivate the community.
