An ambulance driver taking a patient to hospital was left with eye injuries from shattered glass when an object shattered his window
Officers are continuing to investigate how damage was caused to an ambulance as it was travelling along the A325 in Frimley yesterday evening.
Surrey Police originally said they believed the vehicle had been targeted, and appealed to the public, asking if they had seen 'anyone acting suspiciously'.
They later released a statement saying that further enquiries had revealed that the damage was most likely to have been accidental and the result of another vehicle throwing up a stone or similar object, and that the ambulance was not deliberately targeted.
"We have carried out a number of enquiries and have studied CCTV footage from the ambulance and from the vicinity and there is no sign of anyone acting suspiciously at the time of the incident" said Detective Inspector Martin Goodwin.
"Bearing in mind that it is a three lane carriageway and that vehicles travel along the road quite fast, and having examined the damage to the windscreen more closely, my conclusion is that it is more likely to have been caused by another vehicle throwing up an object.”
The paramedic who was driving the ambulance was treated at Frimley Park Hospital for injuries to his eyes caused by the glass but was later discharged and is currently recovering at home.
His crewmate and patient who was being transported to hospital escaped unhurt.
