Eat well for less
If you missed Monday’s episode of 'Eat Well For Less?' starring Chris Bavin from the Naked Grocer in Walton, there’s still time to catch the programme on BBC iPlayer
In the one-off episode, Chris teams up with Gregg Wallace for an experiment with that British classic fish and chips, to see whether the dish could really be made well for less. Gregg made the full deluxe version, while Chris cooked the cheaper cut. They then dished up their efforts and waited for the public to deliver their verdict.
In the end, Gregg’s line-caught cod and triple cooked chips won the day, but it was a very entertaining programme – and interesting too. The pair looked in-depth at the ingredients used to make both the high-end and cheaper ingredients – with surprising results. Needless to say, there was a fair bit of banter from these two jolly grocers.
“It was my first foray into the media world, so it was pretty nerve-wracking but really good fun,” says Chris, whose fruit and veg shop has scooped bucket-loads of awards.
With any luck, we’ll see Chris on our screens again in the not-too-distant future in more Eat Well for Less? episodes.
