Britain's first independent cookery school relocates to Woking
The prestigious Tante Marie Culinary Academy is set to relocate to a new state-of-the-art premises in central Woking.
Established in 1953, Britain’s first independent cookery school has been setting the standards in training culinary talent for sixty years. Its alumni are established globally as leading figures in the hospitality industry today, having inspired the likes of Lyndy Redding, founder of Absolute Taste, and TV chef Harriet Eastwood.
The relocation to Alexander House in the centre of Woking in early 2015 will mark a new era for the culinary academy, offering cutting-edge facilities covering 8,000 sq ft including a demonstration theatre, 6 student kitchens, lecture rooms and a training restaurant serving the public.
Tante Marie will also be the first to launch a brand new professional qualification, incorporating a hospitality business management component as well as extending its range of Lifestyle [and Gap Year] cookery courses.
Commenting on their move, Tante Marie’s Managing Director and Principal, Andrew Maxwell said: “We are thrilled to announce the evolution of our cookery school with a move to larger and more impressive facilities, in our 60th year. By 2015 we will have outgrown our current home and the new premise is almost double the size of our current base."
Woking’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs McCrum, joined Principal Andrew Maxwell and the team at Tante Marie Culinary’s Academy for afternoon tea to celebrate their landmark diamond anniversary and relocation. Guests included local MP, Jonathan Lord and Woking Borough Council’s Chief Executive Ray Morgan OBE. Everyone raised a glass and toasted to the occasion (pictured above).
