Sophie Farrah discovers SW London’s newest sushi delivery service
Sushi lovers rejoice – SW London has a new delicious Japanese option, but there’s a twist. Oro Sushi’s fresh approach fuses Japanese cuisine with Australian flavours.
Following the success of their first stint in Belgravia, Oro has recently launched in Wimbledon as a delivery-only, pescatarian-led, environmentally aware venture. It’s the brainchild of Alexandre Santamaria, founder of Aware Hospitality, ex-Zuma Global executive chef, Anthony Garlando, and sustainability entrepreneur, Nick Yeatman.
The trio has created a concept that concentrates on restaurant-quality, responsibly sourced sushi and sashimi, made with sustainable ingredients, and a menu that offers powerful savoury flavours combined with tropical zest.
The aim is to create a ‘high-end home experience’, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. I am not a fan of overly complicated food, but Oro’s menu offers a good mix of familiar sushi and sashimi, as well as some more intriguing ingredients and dishes.
We started with straight-forward sushi, and it was some of the best I’ve had.
The ebi tempura maki (tempura prawn, cucumber, avocado and yuzu mayonnaise), spicy bluefin tuna maki (with chilli mayonnaise and shichimi pepper) and organic Scottish salmon nigiri were all beautifully presented, melt-in-the-mouth fresh and completely delicious. I could live on the stuff.
Next, I uncovered a box of big, juicy, bright red prawns; grilled and covered in an umeboshi plum and yuzu glaze; they were finger-licking good – every morsel was devoured.

Great big spears of al dente asparagus came next, decadently fried in crisp panko breadcrumbs, scattered with pretty, punchy wild garlic flowers and a very moreish miso mayonnaise dip.
I literally couldn’t get enough of kimchi fried rice – a decadent dish with just the right amount of heat and wonderful texture, covered luxuriously in black truffle, spring onion and a perfectly fried egg.
It tasted as good as it sounds. I also loved the soft, fresh soba noodles, generously stirred through with chunks of Dorset crab, silky shiso and shishito pepper butter and perfect little mouthfuls of chopped broccolini.
There was more on the menu I wanted to try – from spicy crab soup and nori crumbed lemon sole, to sweet potato karaage with truffle mayonnaise and prawn and ginger gyoza, served with a rhubarb and Tasmanian pepper berry ponzo, no less.
There are also genuinely interesting vegan options to be had, such as fried cauliflower with XORO Sauce and coconut tofu, and mochi flatbread with Australian bush dukkah and whipped tofu.
The menu is a perfect balance between high-quality familiarity and creative, flavoured-filled adventure.
It feels authentic and carefully executed, rather than overly complicated just for the sake of it.
Everything we tried was incredibly fresh, beautifully presented and very delicious.
The high quality of ingredients is obvious, and the price point is fair. This Japanese / Australian combination is a match made in heaven.
