Top wholesale bakery's new home delivery service
They say that every cloud has a silver lining: well, now we can enjoy a home delivery service of the same top-notch artisan breads, croissants, muffins and other fabulous baked goods that had previously only been the privilege of visitors to The House of Lords, The House of Commons, The Ritz, The London Hilton Park Lane and a host of other top establishments!
A bakery, based in Surbiton, Surrey, has succeeded in completely turning around its business model after the COVID-19 government shutdown of hotels and restaurants decimated its market.
Frankonia the Bread House had previously been a favoured wholesale supplier to a raft of high-end hotels and restaurants throughout London and the UK, but it’s now providing the public with home deliveries of its top-quality slowly fermented sourdoughs, pretzels plus a range of other fabulous breakfast good and cakes.
Birgit Gunz originally established Frankonia as a small bakery and shop in Wimbledon back in 1998. She relocated her business to its current premises in Surbiton a few years later, when its reputation grew and business from the country’s premier addresses started to flood in.
“When the hospitality industry effectively ‘stopped’ on March 20 my business fell apart, literally!” Says Gunz, “From supplying London’s and UK’s 5-star market with our breads, brioche and pastries, we suddenly had no customers...
“My bakery operates 365 days a year and with over 20 years experience I was proud to have a loyal, talented staff, many of whom I didn’t want to lay off or furlough. We started with a small take-away shop at the bakery, but word soon spread, and we are now really busy with requests to deliver – we currently cover an approximate 10-mile radius of postcodes.”
With a minimum order of £17.50 including delivery, free delivery on all orders over £30, the word is spreading fast and Frankonia the Breadhouse will soon be back working at full tilt.
