Saffron Summer
Indian haute cuisine lands in Hook. Yes, the location (right on Hook Junction of the A3) leaves a lot to be desired, but you’ll find that Saffron Summer is a cut above the norm. The menu is fresh, original and mercifully free of the dreary (anglicised) dishes that plague so many Indian restaurants these days. Feast on golgappa street snacks, Keralan Meen (sea bass in banana leaves) or even wild boar vindaloo.

White is right
Hailed as the drink of 2016, white port seems to be the spirit of choice in the capital’s top cocktail bars this summer. Serve chilled with tonic or lemonade and plenty of ice, and then garnish with a slice of lemon and a sprig of mint for an alternative to the perennial Pimm’s or the ubiquitous G&T.
Taylor’s Chip Dry is available from Waitrose (£13)
