Sweet Virtues is a business focused on making guilty pleasures a little less... well, guilty. Sophie Farrah went along to a (literal) taster evening to find out how
Earlier this month I was invited to an evening of ‘Chocolate Superfood Alchemy’. I had absolutely no idea what to expect, but in my opinion anything to do with chocolate is always worth a try.
After arriving I quickly realised that this was no ordinary chocolate. These, I was told, were luxury, award-winning, hand-made superfood truffles, power-packed with more than five superfood ingredients in each!
The evening was hosted by Teddington-based Carey Davis-Munro, who founded health-conscious food business ‘Sweet Virtues’ in 2014. Mother of three, qualified PE teacher, fitness instructor and avid yogi, Carey has run various workshops focused on healthy eating. These sparked the idea of creating guilt-free chocolate truffles crammed with nutrients.
Yummy!
Initially, Carey took us through the science behind her innovative, indulgent chocolate creations. She focused on the unique combination of 72% Ecuadorian Bio dynamic fair trade raw chocolate with various superfoods such as Maca, Sunflower Seeds and Ginseng; a harmonious process that not only has numerous health benefits, but also tastes delicious. My mouth was watering by this point.
Happily, we then got to try the truffles. Available in three varieties; Maqui (with detoxifying properties), Chia Seeds & Lime (to energise) and Baobab & Vanilla (to promote balance), and each one is delectable. And what enhanced the experience further was Carey’s holistic approach to the tasting process; with each truffle we did a short breathing exercise before actually sampling it, with an emphasis on being mindful and savouring the moment. This heightened all my senses, and made the truffles smell and taste even more sensational. Chocolate meditation, she called it. It was a wonderful experience!
Over the past year the business has skyrocketed. These beautifully packaged truffles are now available in Whole Foods Markets, Planet Organic and even Harrods, amongst others. So why not try some chocolate mediation for yourself? It is nearly Easter after all…
Sweet Virtues will be at Whole Foods Market in Richmond on April 23
