The Black Cat Opera Company makes a welcome return to Guildford's Electric Theatre with a top-class new production of Mozart's comic masterpiece, Così fan Tutte, from 9th-11th December. Showcasing a cast of dazzling young operatic talent, this promises to be an evening of laughter, passion, tenderness and virtuosity - the perfect start to the festive season!
Così follows two young officers (Matthew Palmer and James Savage-Hanford) who are manipulated into attempting to prove the love and fidelity of their betrothed (Aoife O’Connell and Claire Filer) by the wry puppet-master Don Alfonso (Gheorghe Palcu) and the girls’ maid Despina (Clare Treacey) – with darkly hilarious consequences.
Black Cat Opera made waves in July 2014 with their inaugural production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni at The Electric Theatre, which was awarded 5 stars by the Surrey Advertiser – “Judging by its first full-scale operatic venture, Black Cat Opera … has a great future”. Since then the company has gone from strength to strength, mounting ambitious performances of works including Bizet’s Carmen and Verdi’s Falstaff.
Così fan tutte will be sung in Italian with English surtitles. Tickets are priced at £20, over-60s and students £18.00, available from the Electric Theatre box office on 01483 444789 and at electrictheatre.co.uk.
