Celebrating a decade of song, One Voice brings together two of Surrey’s largest community choirs to present a sparkling selection of their finest and favourite tunes!
United in their joy and passion for singing, the 240 voices of Elmbridge Choir and Elmbridge Ladies Choir invite you to share in their 10th anniversary festivities at Holy Trinity Church in Claygate on Saturday 7th November.
The two magnificent community choirs are in buoyant mood following recent celebrations which incorporated the wedding of Surrey Music’s founder, Cliff van Tonder, to his husband Brendon Perold. Both choirs promise an eclectic and exciting programme of popular music, as voted for by the choir members themselves.
‘We surveyed the choir for the songs they would most like to revive from our all-time repertoire,’ explains Dale Thomas, Music Director of Elmbridge Ladies Choir. ‘We're bringing back the top vote-getters such as Fields of Gold, Angel, Life in a Northern Town, and Viva la Vida, but we'll also be performing some new songs - The Climb, Don't Stop Believin', and Come On, Get Happy which is a tribute to Great American Songbook composer Harold Arlen.’
‘We are aiming to raise the roof with wonderful sound as well as raise plenty of money for our chosen charity, SERV Surrey and South London,’ says Cliff van Tonder, Music Director of Elmbridge Choir. ‘Alongside some of our old favourites, including a couple of the choir’s trademark African songs, we will be introducing a few of our more recent pieces. There’ll be lots of reminiscing and plenty of fun. We expect to see many of our loyal followers from the last ten years in the audience but would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone – we’d love to see some new faces to support us through the next ten years!!’
The choirs are delighted to be supporting SERV Surrey and South London, whose volunteer motorbike riders and vehicle drivers provide a vital out-of-hours service, delivering emergency blood and other medical products. SERV is completely reliant on donations and welcomes the support received from events such as this. As well as looking for volunteer riders, drivers and controllers, SERV would also like to encourage people to join the new ‘Friends of SERV Surrey and South London’ to assist them with fundraising.
The concert starts at 7.00pm. Tickets costing £10 (adults) £5 (under 12) are now available from www.ticketbasket.co.uk
