From Wednesday 12th to Sunday 16th June, London Seafood Festival will transform Battersea Power Station’s Thames riverbank into the home of seafood with a series of one-off special events, masterclasses, al fresco demonstrations and tastings with top London chefs including José Pizarro, Asma Khan, Vivek Singh and Francesco Mazzei.
Moving to the beat of live musicians and busking bands, the festival’s five-day line-up of outdoor demonstrations gives everyone, from the experts to humble home cooks, the chance to see the award-winning chefs at work, searing and grilling fresh seafood against the backdrop of the iconic Battersea Power Station.
The line-up includes Francesco Mazzei of Fiume; José Pizarro, who will be making Norwegian Cod in Papillote with Fennel and seafood salad; Anna Hansen of The Modern Pantry; Calum Franklin of Holborn Dining Room, making Crab, Courgette and Mint Salad; and Neil Rankin of Temper. The demonstrations will be compered by Magic Radio presenter, Emma B, who brings over 20 years of broadcasting experience and a passion for cooking and seafood to the demo stand.
The festival, now in its second year, will also play host to a handful of ticketed events – on sale now – granting guests access to one-time special feasts by some of the UK’s most renowned chefs including Vivek Singh of Cinnamon Kitchen and award-winning Asma Khan of Darjeeling Express who will, on Friday 14th June, be hosting a collaborative seafood feast, where guests will first be able to watch Asma’s episode of Chef’s Table, followed by a Q&A with both chefs where they will speak about their renowned culinary journeys.
On Wednesday 12th June, Roy Brett of the award-winning Scottish seafood restaurant, Ondine, will be taking over Wright Brothers’ kitchen for one night only to cook-up a five-course dinner of salt-baked Carabineros with smoked romesco & rosemary oil and grilled red mullet, courgette, red pepper & anchoïade. A pop-up riverside Crab Shack from seafood experts Wright Brothers will be serving guests sharing platters for two while learning from professionals the best and messiest method of eating crab across the five days.
For guests wanting to get hands-on, there will be several interactive masterclasses including a Spice & Fish masterclass from Rakesh Nair of Cinnamon Kitchen, whose decades of experience with Indian cuisine will lead guests through an educational evening as they learn how to combine spices with seafood and how to prepare fish in curries, grilling and tandoor cooking.
For oyster lovers, there will be oyster masterclasses aboard the MBNA Thames Clippers recently launched a boat, the Venus Clipper, led by Wright Brothers, in which experts on board will dispel myths and teach guests about the health benefits of the tiny molluscs.
