Ceiling of the Watts Chapel, Compton
Mary Seton Fraser Tytler (1849 – 1938) was amongst the first British women to study art professionally. When she married George Frederick Watts in 1886, she cared for him and guarded his reputation, but the supportive relationship allowed her own talent to flower. She designed ceilings in their home, heavenly chapel interiors in Compton and Aldershot, and founded a successful Arts & Crafts pottery.
