Listen to winter stories from around the world, sing-along and shake your shaker to Jan Blake’s newly devised interactive story In the Winter Wood.
Together with Apples and Snakes, we have commissioned a new work by contemporary storyteller Jan Blake. In the Winter Wood is a tale of friendship and working together with Pig and Goat meeting Goose, Hare and Cockerel on a journey after running away to avoid becoming a winter feast. The stories that these animals share along the way will explore cultural, winter traditions from around the world. This devised new story will be a cosy immersive experience for our younger audiences with the Adventure Theatre being transformed into a winter woodland.
The messages in the piece tell us that It's alright to try new things, that we don't need to be afraid and when we work together, we can achieve anything. We learn that everybody, no matter how little they may be, has a unique quality, which can contribute to the joy and happiness of their family and friends.
Come and meet these special characters, GOAT, who is trying to find a new place to live so he can be happy away from humans. PIG, who is a bit cantankerous and doesn't always see the best in people. GOOSE, who is a bit of a gossip, but very helpful; HARE, who is very enthusiastic and a great storyteller and COCKEREL, who is very caring and there to make sure that the animals all have enough rest so that they can finish their cabin in the winter wood. He crows to mark the hours of work, rest and play.
Jan Blake is one of the UK’s foremost storytellers and specialises in stories from Africa, the Caribbean, and Arabia. Often enticing and encouraging audiences to interact and become part of the story, she has a well-earned reputation for dynamic and generous storytelling. In the Winter Wood storytelling is shared by Jan Blake and Laura Sampson.
