2. Join the Plantathon
Help plant containers with autumn bedding plants and bulbs at a fundraising Plantathon at Squire’s Garden Centres.

4. Walton Heritage Day

8. Surrey Hills Wood Fair
This celebration of traditional crafts offers plenty of hands-on experiences for kids such as willow weaving, driving a digger, axe throwing, tree climbing, and exploring the forest school’s mud kitchen.
This year, we will see a new woodworkers village, shire horses, axe throwing displays, activities such as rock climbing, mountain biking, mindfulness walks, and over 90 stalls featuring local woodcraft and food and drink.

9. Stitch in time...
The Royal School of Needlework brings its treasure trove of unique pieces to a wider audience with the launch of its website collections, royal-needlework.org.uk.
Marking the launch is a new exhibition of many of the first 100 pieces. Tales of Textiles: The RSN Collection in Focus tells the stories of beautiful pieces that span three centuries.

10. Tickets to see Nik Kershaw
As well as being the year of Orwell’s dystopian novel, 1984 was the year Nik Kershaw became UK’s biggest-selling artist, languishing for some 62 weeks in the top 40 singles chart and releasing two platinum albums, Human Racing and The Riddle.
On the 40th anniversary, Nik and his band take to the road to perform both albums in their entirety including much-loved classics, 'Won’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me' and 'Wouldn’t It Be Good'

11. Heritage Open Days
Hundreds of historic buildings and gardens will open for free this month, see heritageopendays.org.uk for the full list.
• Old St George’s Church, Esher, tucked away behind The Bear, this Tudor gem lays claim to be the oldest surviving building in Esher. There will be guided tours of both the church and the graveyard at 11 am and 1 pm on Sat Sept 7 and 14.
• Claremont Landscape Garden will be opening its grounds on Sat, Sept 14, 10-5 pm with volunteer guides on hand to show visitors around the 300-year-old grass amphitheatre.
• Guided tours of Surbiton (Sun, Sept 8,11am, meet at the train station) and Kingston (Sat, Sept 7 and Sun, Sept 8, 11 am, meet at the golden queen in the marketplace)
• Semaphore Tower, Cobham. A unique remnant from the Napoleonic period, this is one of Landmark’s most recent restorations. Open for tours on Sat, Sept 14 and Sun 15, 10 am-4 pm.
12. Mother's Day at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre
Kicking off Yvonne Arnaud’s autumn comedy programme is 'The Scummy Mummies: Greatest Hits'.
Comedy and podcast duo Ellie and Helen joined forces in 2013, since then they have created more than 200 podcast episodes for “less-than-perfect” parents, as well as a previous hit live comedy show.
They’re bringing all their most-loved songs, sketches, and stand-up together for a night of side-splitting laughs.
