Award winning kitchen designers Roundhouse give us some expert advice on the benefits of bespoke kitchens, and some advice on what to look for
Looking for a kitchen that works exactly the way you want it to with no compromises? A bespoke solution may be just what you are looking for! Multi-award-winning bespoke kitchen design and manufacturer Roundhouse, offers advice to help get you underway...
What can you expect?

William Eckersley
Unlike ‘off the peg’ units, a bespoke kitchen is designed entirely around you, a welcome change to being shoe-horned into whatever is available. Made to measure it is just like a bespoke suit: the size and shape is cut to fit, it will be exactly what you want and should last a lifetime. Bespoke kitchen designers will go the extra mile to understand your needs and ideas.
Think about the space

If you have an extension planned or walls demolished to create a large open space, talk to your kitchen designer early on so that it can be designed as an integral part of the space rather than an afterthought. Think about how you will use the space – will it be more than just a kitchen where food is prepared? Perhaps you're after a social space for family and a place to entertain as well?
Early consultation

Richard Washbrooke
Designing a bespoke kitchen is all about consultation and collaboration. At Roundhouse we always make sure to work as closely as possible with our customers – and their architect or interior designer if they have one – to ensure every single specification and tiny detail are completely spot-on. It is by getting to understand a customer's needs that a designer will be able to come up with really creative ideas, often ones that may not even have been considered by a client when they initially laid out their plans.
Make a must-have list

Are there things you just can’t live without? List your priorities: if you are a keen cook you might want acres of prep space; prefer an entirely clutter-free kitchen? Then storage space will be critical; do you want specific appliances, maybe a particular work surface? It's important for your designer to know what the essential elements of the kitchen are going to be so they can build everything else around them.
Gather inspiration

Collect as much reference material as you can, sources like magazines, Instagram, Pinterest, houzz are useful, or from kitchen website inspiration galleries. Focus on what really inspires you as it helps designers to understand your preferences.
Your budget

Being frank about your budget upfront means your designer will be able to help you choose where you should invest and where you may be able to save. For example extra wide bi-fold doors could help save on cabinetry costs and some types of cabinetry and veneers are more expensive than others, the same goes for work surfaces and of course appliances.
What you’ll get…

A beautiful kitchen designed around you. In the finest materials, it will last for years to come, and because it’s of the highest build and design quality it’s actually a very ‘sellable’ feature when it comes to moving house.
