Lionsgate UK has now announced that they will be releasing the uplifting drama Military Wives early via a digital release on the Curzon Home Cinema platform. This is following the closure of cinemas around the country due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Sharon Horgan, the film will be available for viewers to stream on premium VOD platforms for a short time only starting from Friday, March 27.
“The cinematic experience is key to our industry, and exhibitors continue to be our integral partners and allies. With cinemas closed nationwide due to the current climate, we want to continue to make Military Wives available to consumers.” - Zygi Kamasa, CEO of Lionsgate UK
The announcement comes as Military Wives had only spent just two weekends in theatres and cinemas across the UK before they were forced to close down to prevent the spread of COVID-19 any further.
The film has received great reviews, and launching in a difficult time still saw the film taking home over £1m despite the outbreak and social distancing rules.
At the time of closure due to Boris Johnson's announcement that public venues should close, the film had grossed £2.47m.
It's not only Military Wives however that is set for an early release on digital platforms. In a bid to serve audiences now at home, Universal has announced The Invisible Man, Emma and The Hunt will all be available to audiences earlier than usual.
