The Chair of Governors, Mr Richard Brocksom, is pleased to announce that from January 2019, Mrs Sue Knox, who is currently Headmistress of Wellingborough Preparatory School, Northampton, will be the next Head of Duke of Kent School.
Following a career in marketing with Procter & Gamble and British Telecom, Mrs Knox completed a Masters in Education and Educational Leadership at Macquarie University in Australia, having previously completed an MBA at Cranfield University. She joined Pymble Ladies’ College in Sydney, Australia, a leading independent girls’ school with over 2000 students, as a teacher of French and German, subsequently becoming Head of Modern Languages, Deputy Head of the Senior School and Head of the Junior School over a ten-year period. In 2015, she was appointed Headmistress of Wellingborough Preparatory School and, as a family, they returned to the UK. It is here that she has continued to focus on creating inspiring learning environments and delivering quality teaching, to engage and stimulate learners.
Speaking at a recent Duke of Kent School Open Morning, Mrs Knox said: ‘As a mother of three, I believe that children should be free to express themselves, with the full support of nurturing and caring adults, but I also believe they need to be challenged as individuals. I want to instil in all pupils, the ability to do their very best in all sorts of environments, encouraging them to embrace every opportunity and to strive for excellence in all that they do. I also believe in cultivating an adventurous spirit, encouraging children, so that they are brimming with self-confidence, imagination, determination and resilience to take on whatever life holds, and run with it. That’s what I want for my own children, and that is what I want for yours too.
As a family, we have a love of outdoor life and have particularly enjoyed our various rafting and canoeing adventures, which have included building and living on a raft and paddling down the Hawkesbury River in Sydney, raising money for charity. Following a number of years in France and Australia, we are delighted to be back in the UK and, as keen ramblers, are looking forward to discovering the beauty of the Surrey Hills landscape.’
