Anyone who loves a good auction or is obsessed with antiques will know of the legendary TV expert, Charles Hanson. He's an auctioneer and a huge television personality, who's best known for his appearances as an antique's expert on Bargain Hunt and Flog It!
Charles Hanson is an auctioneer, chartered surveyor and television personality. He is best known for his appearances as an antiques expert on the television programmes Bargain Hunt, Flog It! and the Antiques Road Trip.
But that's not all he's up to these days. He recently established a new antique business of his own in East Mosely, where he is seeing success after success. Most recently, the business sold a rare Chinese dish that was originally published for £3 and was sold for a whopping £100,000 at Hanson's most recent auction at Normansfield Theatre in Teddington! Can you believe?
The chipped blue and white charger was bought at a country house sale by the owner's father in 1955 and no one had an inkling that it could actually be worth something.
"It's highly valuable because it carries the Chinese Yongzheng mark of the period 1723-1735. It's nearly 300 years old and its striking reverse decoration with raised slip detailing is inspired by the Ming and Yuan ceramics of the preeding dynasties. Similar examples are held in major museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Nezu Museum in Tokyo." - Charles Hanson
Hansons has had a huge success with such items of this type and sold a similar plate a year, found in a Derbyshire kitchen cupboard for £230,000. Which leaves us thinking do our homes contain more value than we once thought?
