As you may know, plastic pollution and Climate Change has been a big topic of discussion in 2019 and it shows no sign of slowing down.
“We Are the Voice” is a recently launched new environmental campaign, which aims to give children a voice in driving change and innovation - something they need and want for the future of their planet.
Children everywhere are beginning to feel very strongly about the issue and are upset by images they see of dead whales’ stomachs full of plastic, strangled turtles and seabirds dying in plastic bags.
In a bid to educate the next generation several of the local schools and choirs have leapt on board to record a song, “We Are The Voice”, to spearhead the campaign. The song was originally written for the World Summit on Sustainable Development (The Earth Summit) in Johannesburg, 2002, and performed at the opening of the Civil Societies ceremony. And the campaign feels its message is even more relevant today.

As well as recording the song, they will be filming the early stages of the campaign to highlight children’s passion for the subject. Once the song is released, the campaign hopes that the song will be heard, downloaded and used for educating and spreading the message through choirs across the country. It is also their aim also to send 1,000,000 virtual postcards to the producers of children's plastic goods.
Dr Niamh Clune, Founder of the We Are the Voice campaign and writer of the song, said, “As a grandmother and environmental campaigner since 1998, I am aware of how much is at stake. If we can pool our talent and generosity of spirit, we can make a real difference.”
The participating schools are St Lawrence C of E Junior School; Esher High School; Stagecoach Hinchley Wood; Weston Green; Hampton Boys School and Mini Molesey Theatre Club. Schools initially came together on 10th February to rehearse/workshop the song.
The song will be recorded on March 3rd at Hook Studios, Kingston and released for general distribution soon after.
