2014 is the time to ditch all those bad habits and embrace a healthier way of eating, so let’s kick start with breakfast!

A healthy breakfast is the best way to start the day, and smoothies make a great change. They’re quick and easy, and something the whole family can enjoy. Throwing in a selection of your favourite fruits also helps tick off a couple of your Five A Day – all before you’ve left the front door!
Luckily The Groovy Food Company have teamed up with top triathlete Georgie Rutherford and are on hand to help with some quick and healthy smoothie recipes (see below).
‘As a working athlete, I have to prepare my nutrition to ensure I don’t deplete my muscles straight from training to the office' says Georgie.

Georgie’s Super Smoothie
Serves 1
1 spoon Maca powder
1/2 spoon spirulina powder
1/2 spoon Acai powder
1 spoon Whey protein
A good squeeze of The Groovy Food Company’s Agave nectar
Oats or muesli depending on what you have in the cupboard
Georgie says: ‘Just whizz it together in a blender along with any fruits you fancy. I have loads of apples from the trees in my garden so I chuck those in, along with some pears. Blueberries and watermelon also taste great – just experiment!’
Totally Tropical Coconut Smoothie
Bring a taste of the exotic to breakfast time with this light and refreshing smoothie that will enrich even the darkest morning.
Serves 4 – perfect for a family breakfast
1 medium banana
400g frozen pineapple chunks
1tbsp Groovy Food Light Mild Agave Nectar
1tbsp desiccated coconut
30g Groovy Food Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
250ml light coconut milk
250ml fresh pineapple juice
Place all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth and serve immediately.
Groovy Avocado and Banana Smoothie
A creamy, delicious drink rich in B vitamins, mood boosting trytophan and magnesium to calm and soothe frazzled nerves
Serves 2
1 small banana, sliced
1 small avocado, peeled and stone removed
2 tbsp Groovy Food Rich Agave Nectar
2tsp Groovy Food Cool Oil
300ml (10floz) chilled milk or milk alternative e.g. soy, oat or rice milk
Mix the ingredients together in a blender and serve in a tall glass – a quick, easy and healthy breakfast for busy people!
