As nice as it is to see the sun shining across Surrey, there are times when we just need to cool down. Here's five places you can go when it all gets a bit too hot to handle
Have a curry
It may sound like the last thing you fancy on a hot day but the spices in curries and chilies raises your internal temperature to match the temperature outside. This causes sweating, which cools the body down. As with shopping centres, curry houses are generally air-conditioned, Madras anyone? Here's a great madras fish curry recipe provided by Rick Stein

Go ice-skating in Guildford
Although normally an activity associated with the winter months, the prospect of spending a few hours in a room where the floor is covered in ice seems like a great way to cool off.
The ice-rink at Guildford Spectrum is open all year round, with a range of different sessions to suit all ages and abilities.

Go swimming al fresco.
With outdoor pools, beaches and rivers in Surrey, spending the day by the water is a great way to soak up the sun and then take a quick dip to cool off. If swimming pools are your thing, then Guildford Lido and Hampton Pool are worth a visit, if you fancy a trip to the beach but don't fancy heading to the coast then check out Frensham Ponds near Farnham. For the more adventurous try wild swimming in the Thames or the River Wey.
Shop, shop, shop
Traipsing up and down the high street ladened with bags of shopping may not seem like a good way to cool down in the summer, but taking a trip to one of Surrey’s shopping centres certainly is. The Bentall Centre in Kingston has some of the hottest brands all under one roof - a great excuse for updating your summer wardrobe. Peacocks and Wolsey Place in Woking is also great for escaping the sun - with 150 shops, plus a theatre and a cinema, you could catch an afternoon show too.
Go caving
Experience Reigate like never before – underground. Not only will exploring Reigate’s caves keep you out of the sun, you will also learn something about one of Surrey’s hidden treasures.
