Wetlands unravelled
Launching in March 2020, Wetlands Unravelled is a year-long contemporary arts programme featuring a series of artworks and performances inspired by the overlooked and hidden stories of the London Wetland Centre.
Curated by Unravelled, the programme unfolds over three seasons with new commissions by ten artists exploring the paradoxes of conservation within the wetland environment, during the twentieth anniversary year of London Wetland Centre. Discover the conflicting notions of our relationship with, and management of, natural environments and the paradoxical role wetlands play as both victim and saviour in the fight against climate change.
Each artist will respond to the wildlife, topography, history and politics of the wetland environment in their own unique way, from Tania Kovats’ illustrated newspaper, Wetlands, to Anne Deeming’s seasonally changing floating sculptures in the ponds. Gavin Osborn’s sound works bring field recordings and interviews to life, while Alec Stevens will create thought provoking water-level installations. They are joined by Jonathan Wright, Claire Barber, Sharon McElroy, Eloise Moody, Caitlin Heffernan and Lizzie Cannon, who will be accompanied in the summer by a series of talks, events and performances.
