Petra Haller, Tap Dancer
Petra is starting off her week of Wandsworth Fringe Tap Dance Days with the 'Petra Haller Trio'.
Tap dance developed as a musical form parallel to and through jazz music, sharing elements of swing, improvisation, rhythmic phrasing, and motifs, so needless to say, Haller wanted to start off her concert series with a night featuring standards and tunes by her favourite composers, such as Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, and Duke Ellington.
Lineup:
Christian Prior, Piano
Michael Searl, Double Bass
Petra Haller, Tap Dance
During her one-week run at National Opera Studio, Petra will show the breadth of her work in genres from Jazz standards to Avant Garde.
Petra Haller is a tap dancer based in London. She is established in the jazz and improvised music scene and has performed on the side of Cleveland Watkiss, Mark Sanders, Xhosa Cole, Chris Mapp, Meg Morley, Loz Speyer, Nikki Franklin, Pete Rosser, and many more. Along side that she has been featured in many multimedia events and in art galleries.
Michael Searl originally learned to play the instrument from West African bandleaders, Michael loves all things bass and enjoys playing all styles of music - from Country to Calypso
Christian Prior grew up in a tiny, remote village on the beautifully bleak moors of the North of England. Without much to do and nowhere to go, music became his companion and escape. His days became filled with it: writing songs, playing piano, singing, and listening to as much music as he could.
At the age of 18, with a burning desire to continue his musical journey, Christian moved to the thriving metropolis of London where he studied jazz and classical music. Followed by time honing his skills working as a freelance musician and finding his own artistic voice.
Christian’s music brings together his love for jazz, rock, classical music, electronica, as well as traditional music from across the globe. Soaring synths, rare grooves, and virtuosic piano solos underpin a vulnerable yet powerful voice singing subtle and well crafted lyrics. Both the the cold, dark beauty of the moors, and the frantic, vibrant energy of London can be heard in Christian’s eclectic sound.
