This one-day course shall explore how our theories of the nature and formation of the Moon have changed from the Renaissance to date, ranging from the first telescopic observations, through the pre-Apollo theories, to the ‘Giant Impact Hypothesis’. The course will also examine the enormous challenge and achievement of Project Apollo, and how it contributed to our current understanding of the Earth’s satellite.
